If you're reading on your phone, hold it in the landscape position to maintain the format of the poem.
Synopsis: Like father, like son? No, because the goal is for son to be better than him.
Eight pounds, seven ounces, ironically born on 8/7
Time to get him ready for life and its lesson after lesson
First time he's home and my mind is on my son
Someone close the blinds before he's blinded by the sun

Got some things to tell you; don't let these words dissipate
Life's full of surprises, so be careful what you anticipate
Lions create their own path; only sheep follow the herd
Through life's setbacks, remain undeterred; hope you heard

Rick Warren: Those who follow the crowd usually get lost in it
And when you do wrong, it's SO IMPORTANT to admit
That's when you'll see the quality of your character increase
Haters are everywhere, so beware because that'll never cease

Money doesn't come; something you'll have to go get
Whether basketball or a paycheck, pay attention to the net
Intuition is key; be aware if you feel something in the air
I want to breathe easy knowing that you are the heir
