Resorting to Poison

Synopsis: This poem is arguably the deepest writing on this site. It deals with the pain caused by alcohol.
Hopefully I'm forgiven for what the sauce caused
Went so far as to break a couple of Nature's laws
Didn't think it would be responsible for my fall
This is just a little of what I saw
People were like, "Please, just let him be"
Isolated, but there's always people around me
Success occurred when the vision blurred; I numbed the pain
How absurd to give my word that I would refrain
Maybe it would have been different if they saw it as a sickness
I don't blame them, though; not after what they witnessed
Even in doing well today, I'm still probably on their shitlist
Sincere apologies were given; now I'm focused on fitness
For a moment there, I was worried about my true wealth
The doctor said, "Marckie, your health is stealth"
The power is in my accountability for these mistakes
It's been a long road traveled from that dismay
Most importantly, I've forgiven myself in this day
Now I can join those who move along in His grace
