My First Funeral

Synopsis: The tragedy of losing a cousin in a fire is written about in this poem. Never forgotten.
Most fail to realize that these lines are born from agony
Is what it is; just happens to be the anatomy
My first question as a kid was, "Why the closed coffin?"
As people around me are emphatically crying and coughing
Apparently, you were left alone when you shouldn't have
Casket was so small it looked like one of two halves
The apartment you was in caught fire; how pathetic
Looking at your mom, my only choice was to feel sympathetic
Your uncle grabbed the guitar; you know he's no imitation
And began playing a song he wrote about the situation
How do your loved ones move past this phase?
Knowing that you lost your life in a fiery blaze
There's a lot to be grateful for, whether we know or not
These words serve as proof; don't think we forgot
I still wonder if our relationship could have been interpersonal
Only a couple of years old when that date turned terminal
